Where would the 30.06 fit? Another factor one might consider is weight and sling quality for rifles and shotguns. A crappy sling will make that rifle or shotgun seem twice as heavy. Personally, I prefer the web sling to the leather - lighter and more tolerant of water.
To me it depends on the action.
Garand = BAR > Anything bolt-action.
After that, near the .308. Just before? Just after? Six of one, half-dozen of t’other?
Anyway, point being, any gun better than no gun.
