If the Southern states were poor and a drain on the government, nobody would have cared if they had left. The fact that they were producing almost all the money spent in Washington is why the government would not let them go.
Contrast this with the Philippines, Cuba, and Puerto Rico, which still has an open invitation to leave.
Yep. It’s all about the money. People like to wrap their money grabs in a cloak of false legitimacy. We see this all the time today. Really though, everybody knows it was all about the money all along.
At least you have finally conceded the concrete historical fact that the Slave States seceded so that they could keep all the profits produced by slaves. That’s a good first step, man.
