Maybe it’s nit picking but neither this article or another nbc article I just read explicitly claim him as a muslim, but rather “sympathetic to causes of jihad for retaliation for previous attacks”
He is repeatedly described as a military veteran though.
But in another nbc article, this is how they described the attacker of the Christ Church mosque:
The indictment was unsealed roughly six weeks after a gunman opened fire at the two mosques in Christchurch, killing 50 people.
That suspect, a 28-year-old Australian national and avowed white supremacist, live-streamed the attack on Facebook using a camera mounted to his helmet.

So, how many non-Muslims support violent jihad?
