… “Many affairs of life which were once easily to be handled by individuals have now become so entangled amongst the complexities of international trade relations, so confused by the multiplicity of news-voices, or so hoisted into the winds of speculation that only powerful combinations of wealth and influence can compass them. Corporations grow on every hand, and on every hand not only swallow and overawe individuals but also compete with governments. The contest is no longer between government and individuals; it is now between government and dangerous combinations and individuals. Here is a monstrously changed aspect of the social world. In face of such circumstances, must not government lay aside all timid scruple and boldly make itself an agency for social reform as well as for political control? ‘Yes,’ says the democrat, ‘perhaps it must.’” …

— Woodrow Wilson, “Socialism and Democracy”

Infiltrate and gain control of big business.

— Communist goal #37
So there you have a two-pronged attack on the individual, where the left takes over corporations on one hand and left-wing politicians use those same corporations as an Emmanuel Goldstein on the other to cajole the public into giving the government more power to deal with the problem caused by the leftists within the corporations.

I would think that Gardner is the most vulnerable of the GOP senators in 2020. CO is a very liberal place now and shows signs of remaining so.

Coloradofornia is going to become a very miserable place if they stay on that track.

I expect no better from people such as Alan Fram.

It’s like this. If Hitler had a (D) next to his name, Democrats would still vote for him. It’s the (D) that counts. Unless someone comes straight out and runs as a socialist, marxist, fascist, anyone who calls themselves a moderate Democrat will still vote for the (D).

Socialism is coming to the USA and it’s going to be a dumpster fire.

What people don't realize is that socialism doesn't come with a 30-day guarantee policy. You can't just "try it on for size," and see if you like it. Grocery stores will be looted and cities will burn; the national guard will be employed to enforce laws.

Once socialism becomes the primary economic system, you can't just say, "thanks, but no thanks, I'd like to go back to capitalism. I'd prefer to pay for my own health care, and my own college, and my own retirement.

And when socialism comes, it'll come quickly. because a government can't give its people something health care without controlling a whole lot of other aspects of their lives.

As others have said, "you can vote your way into socialism, but you'll have to shoot your way out."

Its a Republic, as long as you can keep it.

We have not kept it (i.e. the republic). The (Dean) Achesons and (Arthur) Larsons have had their way. The system of restraints has fallen into disrepair. The federal government has moved into every field in which it believes its services are needed. The state governments are either excluded from their rightful functions by federal pre-emption, or they are allowed to act at the sufferance of the federal government. Inside the federal government, both the executive and judicial branches have roamed far outside their constitutional boundary lines. And all of these things have come to pass without regard to the amendment procedures prescribed by Article V. The result is a Leviathan, a vast national authority out of touch with the people, and out of their control. This monolith of power is bounded only by the will of those who sit in high places. …
That’s the observation from The Conscience of a Conservative, published in 1960. The book blames both parties here, what with Acheson being the Democrat and Larson being the RINO.

It is much worse now than when that observation was made. I fear for our Republic.
