I’ve never heard her called “Kamel-uh” until she announced for president. It has always been “KAH-malah”.They must have done polling and found that one - sounds like Pamela - is more innocuous than the other, which is vaguely Arabic.

That makes sense. One sounds American and the other vaguely reminds one of terrorists.
