Anecdotal evidence from some elder male relatives long dead leads me to believe that scouting has long been a bastion of queerness. I did the whole enchilada from cub scout to explorer. Cubs was fine because mothers were the unit leaders. Boy scouts was a bit different because some of the scoutmasters were not married with sons in the troop and adult single male assistants were a red flag. By the time explorers rolled around, most of us were smoking and drinking and driving and would beat the snot out of any faggots that would try to intervene.
