What it means is that the “leading” cadre realizes
that it’s a losing proposition and doesn’t want to
kill any chance they think they have in 2020.

The Progs don’t care, as they think the old guard is
just in the way in any event.

They probably expect to win in a landslide in 2020 (no one they know likes Trump) and it's just a question of figuring out who would make the strongest ticket, after pretending to leave it to the voters in the primaries to decide. So best not to alienate low information voters with an impeachment circus which will leave Trump still in office.

Biden/Abrams?
Bernie/Kamala?
Kamala/Buttigieg?
Biden/Castro?
Abrams/Waters?
Buttigieg/Booker?

Can we dare to dream of the Left's internecine war with third or fourth party action? Tell me "yes."

Just our luck if Mitt and a Libertarian offer magnanimously to accept the presidency to heal the nation's wounds. If France can have ten parties form coalitions that could be our nightmare future, too.
