A government watchdog says the FBI is ignoring its concerns about the accuracy of facial recognition technology, as well as issues regarding citizens Fourth Amendment privacy rights.
NextGov reports that the bureau still hasnt assessed whether its facial recognition technology has met accuracy and privacy standards fully three years after the Government Accountability Office raised a number of concerns regarding its use.

Doesn’t matter. You can’t walk to your mailbox without some camera watching you.
Well, when you drive over the bridges in Louisville cameras take pictures of your license plate and then send you a toll bill. The horror stories of gigantic bills for people that never drove over the bridge abound. Somehow I think that tag recognition ought to be a whole lot easier than facial recognition.
More innocent people are going to suffer from this fascist crap.
I was chuckling at that, thinking I certainly can, living out here in the sticks as I do - but the I realized you're right.
Except they're my cameras.
Throughout it’s history, the FBI (F-Troop) has ignored the constitution and any written law they choose to. Ignoring a “concern” from the GAO? They do that and laugh.
How about a private funded group use face recognition to catch all the multi voters that the democrats use every election. And then maybe we can get some of these people prosecuted.
I have a vanity plate, six letters. They were only two letters off and the photo they sent me was clearly a NJ plate.
A friend said it took him three months and a certified copy of his registration to clear up an even bigger bill from NYC.
I don't think most of the places relying on them, especially the FBI, give a damn about accuracy. The way they figure it, getting the accuracy up costs them time and money while correcting their mistakes costs people smacked with an error time and money. True "civil servants", right?
They can't even get auto tags right and we're supposed to believe the facial recognition stuff is any better?
While a Florida resident (13 years ago) I forwarded our mail to my brother in MD for six weeks while we were traveling. He would box it and UPS to me once a week.
The next year I received a threatening letter from MD demanding I pay state and county income taxes claiming I was a resident of the state that year. I still have copies of their letter and my response. Would not surprise me if they tried again even after 13 years.
