Should have been done fifty years ago.

But he is correct...it will decrease costs to every resident in the state. When you go to buy groceries or car-parts, you will find savings.

They should talk to AOC. Their next project could be a train from Alaska to Siberia!

This will lower the cost of living in AK. Don’t live there but spent a lot of time there.

The only train I’ve ever ridden was in Canada, a short freight train ride that started in Hawk Junction, Ontario.

I won’t laugh, it has been suggested to build a railroad and highway bridge between Alaska and Russia. If it happens, and I’m alive, I won’t drive it...

I think I have seen every episode of Deadliest Catch. The bridge would have to be well north of where they fish. I can’t even imagine how big and sturdy a bridge across the Bering Strait would have to be.

It would also have to allow some big ships and bigger submarines to pass through it. I don’t think the USN would like having to channel those subs through such a small and easily monitored opening either.

Anyway, I did not laugh. :)

I didn’t know it doesn’t exist. Great news for Alaska. That would gradually improve their lives.

I could envision it better if there was a map.

Connecting to the British Columbia rail network would be pretty cheap compared to a new direct link to Alberta. They should Forget Alberta Oil and do it for the citizens of the state

The Canadians want to ship their Alberta Tar Sands oil to the the Trans Alaska Pipeline around Delta Junction.

Along with the Railroad, they would also run fiber optic cable, which could serve as a spine for running high speed Internet through the area it passes.

“Forget Alberta Oil”

That is the bill payer for the whole project.

Hawk Junction! Oh, yeah! On the way to Oba Lake and great fishing, by train. (Great childhood memories - hope I can get back there before I’m unable to....)

rode the White pass line from Scagway AK into Yukon. that was cool, rode on a tourist train on the Alaska railway from Denali Park to Anchorage, and there to Seward. really nice scenery. liked it alot.

My parents used to go to Oba lake, back in the 60’s.

I went to Wabatongushi lake, Ontario

We never went to Wabatongushi Lake. Just Oba (by rail) a couple times (only once I was old enough to really recall), and a few years later, we flew into Granite Hill Lake. Of course, Ontario has a LOT of those beautiful lakes!

Somewhere on the way to Oba by train, IIRC, there was a quite high trestle curving over a dam(?) and I think some sort of powerhouse in the valley below? I recall everyone rushing to one side of the train car to gander at the view, and the car actually tipped a bit — not very reassuring!!!
