I have seen this play out at the neighborhood level a few times over the years, and I think the simple explanation for it is that right-wingers, usually being men of strength and character, build such organizations based on high standards. Then when that organization has achieved some level of status and prestige, lesser men want to be part of it so that they can have the prestige, but they lack the character to meet the standards, so they lower them. They are consequently forced to adopt a left-wing mindset in order to justify, in some moral context, their corruption of the standards. And when you add women into the mix, well...
