Has anyone here ever been to Tokyo? Hiroshima? Nagasaki? Dresden?

Flattened. Not only the buildings, but the way of life.

Bye, Hirohito! Bye, Goering! Bye, Evita!

Sensationalism. Nothing more.

The more telling story from the Notre Dame fire is what DIDN’T happen. The altar was saved. The relics were saved. The bells and art and Host were saved. And the cathedral still stands, an enduring reminder of the God it was built to honor.

If it had crumbled to dust — as it must some day — He would not be reduced in the slightest.

Vive Notre Dame! Vive notre Dieu!

“If you didn’t know Munich was rubble”

Monday’s fire @ Notre Dame reminded me of my visit to Munich in 1990. The Munich cathedral is the tallest structure in the city to the best of my knowledge.

However, in 1945 the roof of the cathedral was completely gone. King Ludwigs tomb(of Bavaria) still stood in the corner of the church. The bell towers, made of stone survived.

from wikipedia:

“The cathedral suffered severe damage during World War II due to the Allied forces’ aerial raids during the latter stages of the war — the roof collapsed, one of the towers suffered severe damage and a lion’s share of the immensely precious interior from all centuries since the foundation of the parish was lost either due to bomb raids or in their aftermath, when tons of debris had to be removed.

Major restoration efforts began after the war and were carried out in several stages, the last of which came to an end in 1994.[
