Almost 39 percent of the more than 4,400 seniors they surveyed in Washington state said they had a firearm in their home. Nearly a quarter said they keep at least one gun loaded and unlocked. Fewer than a third said they keep all firearms locked up and unloaded.

It has never seemed logical to me that if I live in a house with no children or young adults in it, and I keep a loaded unlocked firearm available, and that gun is stolen by some kid who breaks into my home, that I should be held responsible for something terrible done with that gun.

Not sure what the value of a gun is that is locked in a case. Never could figure that logic.

I remember getting some "Safety Pup" questionnaire from the county sheriff years ago asking about guns, ammo and location for "fire safety purposes" in case firefighters had to show up at my house.

I am no more than 5 steps away from a firearm anywhere in my home. Locked and loaded because it's a 20 minute drive to (or from) town.
