Crown of Thorns, Artwork
Art is the only thing that's holy to the French these days. It's been that way since that Nietzsche guy stabbed the Most High and they lost their faith during two world wars.
This crown of thorns appears to be deemed a third class relic.
A third class relic is something that was in the vicinity of something that came near the real thing once. Maybe.

That Nietzsche guy was German, of course. Little to do with France.
That happened well before Nietzsche or the world wars. The French Revolution was as anti-clerical as it was anti-monarch (some radicals even wanted to destroy Notre Dame cathedral for this reason - fortunately their comrades at least appreciated it for its aesthetic and cultural value). As far as secular philosophers are concerned, Rousseau, Voltaire, Condorcet, and Laplace all predate Nietzsche by a century and had a much more direct effect on French culture.
