No matter how we might feel about the amish teens, shooting them in the back after they were walking/running away is bad form and he likely doesn't want to destroy his and his families' lives by being in the headlines and courts rooms for the next five years.
He stopped the assault and the perps will likely be identified and hopefully prosecuted. That's a win.

The vast majority of city downtowns are no-go zones in my book. Typically, the media ‘protects’ these downtowns by intentionally spiking stories regarding the filth and violence taking place, but eventually stuff does leak out, like here. But mostly you won’t hear about in the news, but if you live near Baltimore, for example, every resident will have stories about their prime tourist spot, the Inner Harbor, and tell you to not go. However, those who visit from out of town and don’t know better - wind up feeding the locals.

I have to admit my lack of experience in such a situation. I thought he might have forced them to stay until the cops came. I guess he couldn’t have done that without a genuine threat to shoot them, which he probably couldn’t do without getting into trouble himself. He couldn’t plead self-defense. If that’s true, then I have learned something.
It was interesting to see how the aggressiveness of these two evaporated at the point of a gun. If they had tails, their tails would have been firmly between their legs. I hope they learned something positive too, but I wouldn’t bet on it.
My one and only experience at Benihana's was on Michigan Av in downtown Chicago in the late 60's. One of my older brothers was working in the area and took me there along with a visit to the science museum (including a tour of the U-555). It was a safe place back then and being a high school kid from the sticks, it was a memorable visit for me. It was Sunday and we parked right outside of the restaurant.
I guess a lot has changed in 50 years and not for the good?
