Everybody hates income taxes. Some people say there are too many loopholes, or too few incentives, or that they're too high, or too low, or that the system is rigged against (insert your favorite group here), or biased in favor of (insert your least favorite group here) or that the IRS is abusive, or too lenient, and -- almost everybody agrees -- the whole thing is corrupt and corrupting.
I know several of these complaints contradict other complaints, but you know what? They're all true. Every single one. Our tax code is a jumbled mess of contradictions, and the IRS is alternately abusive and permissive.
At the left-leaning Daily News today, David Cay Johnson writes that "theres a fundamental problem at the heart of the way we fund our government." He says that there are actually two tax systems, one for "for working stiffs and retirees," and the other for "rich business owners [who] operate under a different system." Johnson's solution? Hire a lot more IRS auditors who will stick it to the rich.

“The lobbyists from Turbotax and from the IRS union will make sure that the tax system never gets any less complicated or intrusive.”
It already did get a lot less complex for me, if not less intrusive.
The higher standard deduction meant we didn’t need to itemize this year. My taxes were done in less than 15 minutes...
Is April 15th still *buy a gun day*?
Cheers to you and FAIRtax.
YUP!
Yet another FAIRtax ping!
Under the FAIRtax, CPAs and bookkeepers (and corporate CFOs!) would be happier, richer and have much improved sex lives in the Spring! They could get REAL JOBS! Helping their clients get rich, and getting rich themselves!
Since April 15th would become Just Another Nice Spring Day, those folks would be in hog heaven, as would the rest of us!
CPAs are trained to help their clients improve their financial position, NOT to serve the interest of the various governments who demand to know all sorts of private financial information so as to punish success!
Income taxes PUNISH success!
FAIRtax REWARDS success!
Under FAIRtax, CPAs and bookkeepers (and corporate CFOs!) would practice their trade FRee of government OVERSIGHT, RULES, MANDATES, and NOSINESS, and would not have to worry about violating some obscure tax law and going to jail!
Most every CPA I have talked to about the FAIRtax likes the concept. Those that don’t support it are afflicted with class warfare!

I agree on getting rid of the 19th.
GREAT FIND!
Thanks!
You hit the tax-man right on the nose.
Given that the people who would vote on this (congress-critters) are the ones who profit from deigning who will win and who will lose, thanks to the tax laws, those “winners” will give their ill-gotten rewards to the congress-critters who have elevated them above their competition.
Congress-critters are able to pad their larders, thanks to the “loopholes” that their lobbyists provide.
And it’s not just businesses. Look at the people in high state property tax states who have been getting their high tax rates reduced on the backs of federal taxpayers in other states. Listen to how they cried, about President Trump’s new tax rules that limit the tax deduction that they can take. How they claimed that President Trump RAISED their taxes. As if they had no control over the state and local taxes that are levied.
