I believe, although there are truly mentally challenged people amongst the homeless population, the vast majority are not mentally sick, (well not in the usual sense) but simply choose to live that life.

They have no financial obligations, no need to work, no need to follow any procedure.

Simply exist, and sponge off the teat of the local govt.

It is made easy for them, they re not asked to move along, they simply squat here they please, to eliminate and also set up housekeeping.

Lazy, used to be called hobos, now they are the "great Homeless", which is nothing more than a political sandwich to feed the gullible.

Here in CA, the mayor of sacto wants to spend 100 million bucks to, get this, supply 150 units for the homeless.

Like that is going to solve anything, and the cost per?

The homeless is a tool by which more and more mony is grifted, like everything else the rats do, which is continually devising more and more ways to suck off the vat of cash the taxpayer supplies.

To get rid of a rat infestation in the garage, one cleans up all the loose chicken feed, and obtains a jack russel terrier.

Soon, no more rats.

I can predict.

Family/friends of mayor build apartment complex for homeless, cut costs with shoddy materials and labor, and charge the government $5000 a month for each one bedroom unit, right?

Then, ensure your friend/cousin/brother/father/sister the mayor gets a nice monthly “honorarium”.
