What is not sustainable is Welfare and other programs for the illegals. If our Representatives don't put a stop to illegals draining our system we will be destroyed financially. That's the part Alan missed.
On a related note, NJ just passed “right-to-die” legislation; this is their solution to the ageing population. Remember the discussion about “death panels” with ObamaCare? They are here; take the poison or we’ll bankrupt you - and you’ll leave nothing to your heirs.
Yes: the hard working taxpayer who helped build the country and actually paid into Medicare and Social Security
while never bothering to demand that the programs were fully funded (for Social Security) or sustainable (for both). We are all participants in a generational conspiracy to kick the can down the road. Some of us have been arguing for reform for many years. Others have gone along willingly with the Ponzi scheme. But we are all in the same boat. Our children and grandchildren will be entirely within their rights to cut us off. Sooner or later, they will. The only real question is whether they will manage to do this before we drive into the ditch.
we're paying illegals and newer immigrants SSI and disability as well as all their children for the whimiest of excuses but a person having PAID in for 4 decades is a burden.....right...
Medicare is way worse than anything else. It’s projected to be a $2T deficit per year for the next 20+ years. Medicare - the average person has only put in 10-20% of their cost and even the total program only around 25% of coverage and getting worse. Welfare is a drop in the bucket comparatively, although both need to be addressed.
Social Security is a Ponzi scheme it isn’t sustainable either!
