Illinois Senate Tells Trump, Show Your Tax Returns Or Be Barred From The 2020 Ballot

The Democratic-led Illinois Senate voted Thursday to compel President Trump to release five years’ worth of his personal income tax returns or be barred from appearing on the state’s presidential ballot next year.

The state is joining a movement of other Democratic states that aims to force the president to open up his personal finances by releasing his tax returns, something he stubbornly has refused to do and reiterated again this week.

During contentious floor debate in the Illinois statehouse, Trump’s name wasn’t mentioned once by the legislation’s sponsor, state Sen. Tony Munoz, a Chicago Democrat who insisted he merely is trying to shed more transparency on the presidential campaign.

“If you want to run for vice president or president of the United States, hey, what’s wrong with providing your tax returns for the past five years?” Munoz asked his colleagues ahead of the Senate’s 36-19 vote in favor of his bill.

“If you’ve got nothing to hide, you shouldn’t worry about anything,” he continued. “That’s how I see it.”

Since before Trump was elected in 2016, Democrats have been trying to pressure him to release his tax returns in hopes of illuminating possible business relationships or sources of income from foreign powers, including Russia.

yes, a full-blown economic and social death spiral would be precipitated and it would happen pretty darn quickly too once it got started ...

The Constitution expressly vests in each state's legislature the power to determine how its Electors for President and Vice President are determined. There is no Constitutional obligation upon a state to even have an election, to say the least of provide ballot access to any particular candidate. It is very unlikely that any federal court would invalidate a ballot access requirement such as this one which has at least a nominally non-discriminatory public interest involved.

An court might find a basis in the Illinois state constitution which provides a guarantee of ballot access ... but the Democrats in the legislature could ask a judge to overturn that requirement insofar as the Constitution's grant of authority is specifically to the legislature and there's no evidence that the legislature could, even if it wanted to, divest itself or be divested of the plenary authority over the manner of selection of Electors.

I just know the democrats have ruled congress for many years... even when they are in the minority. They push and demand and use anything they can... they are used to it. The GOP has let them.. and now that we have a President who fights back and works for the people and does not owe special interest ... it’s a chance to get it done right. The old crowd does not give up their habits ... they just get nastier.
There are rules and such, that would apply if things were normal. The past 2 years has NOT been normal in any way. How can laws made for congress that cooperated, work today when the dems are hell bent on NOT giving Trump any help or let him do what he promised to do.
How do the laws apply when the dems are ignoring the crisis at the border and letting thosands a day into our country, not knowing who they are. They would rather let the country sink than give Trump a nod on the border.
If it doesn’t bother them, they will let it all go to hell in a basket rather than help the people in this country... who are being overrun by illegals.

The hollywood parents who got their children into colleges ahead of those who worked and earned the right to attend.... they are facing jail. How different is it when there are those who have tried the legal way to get into the US. ony to be set back by the illegals who are coming in and the dumb laws let them... they know the laws and use them. They are given free everything and this is NOT RIGHT! The dems are letting it happen. How can laws that are used to destroy our country be the first law of the land... it’s all politics and it makes me angry.. I go way back and this is a new low and a new trick that is being played on the people.... all because they hate the man who came off the street, from his home, and took over leadership.. voted in by the people who were fed up with 8 years of the worst and fed up with the ruling elite who don’t give a damn.
