The Democratic-led Illinois Senate voted Thursday to compel President Trump to release five years worth of his personal income tax returns or be barred from appearing on the states presidential ballot next year.
The state is joining a movement of other Democratic states that aims to force the president to open up his personal finances by releasing his tax returns, something he stubbornly has refused to do and reiterated again this week.
During contentious floor debate in the Illinois statehouse, Trumps name wasnt mentioned once by the legislations sponsor, state Sen. Tony Munoz, a Chicago Democrat who insisted he merely is trying to shed more transparency on the presidential campaign.
If you want to run for vice president or president of the United States, hey, whats wrong with providing your tax returns for the past five years? Munoz asked his colleagues ahead of the Senates 36-19 vote in favor of his bill.
If youve got nothing to hide, you shouldnt worry about anything, he continued. Thats how I see it.
Since before Trump was elected in 2016, Democrats have been trying to pressure him to release his tax returns in hopes of illuminating possible business relationships or sources of income from foreign powers, including Russia.
No one cares what Illinois has to say..
I guess Illinois is willing to forfeit its electoral votes.
That cant possibly be legal.
Just how many votes would Trump get in Illinois?
Still, this should be challenged in court. It’s a terrible precedent.
They can’t keep him off the ballot ... the voters would have to act.. even if it were possible.
They are using an election to try a coup and get back their absolute power... by any means.
Not gonna win I’ll-annoy anytime soon, so what’s the point? For dems it will be like peeing yourself in a dark suit: it gives you a warm feeling, but nobody notices.
CC
Trump should post his birth certificate saying this is what an actual one looks like.
Exactly!
This will not hold up in the court system. These guys are playing Calvin Ball.
The RATS are so petty, desperate and out of political ammunition. They’re imploding all over the country and are too blind to see it.

One more reason to never use the popular vote to determine Presidential elections. Illinois is one of the state that has voted to award their electoral votes to the Presidential candidate receiving the majority of the popular vote.
It would truly be ironic if Trump wins the popular vote nationwide, and they have to award him all Illinois’ electoral votes, despite him not being on the ballot.
Imagine the screeching had a state done this with Øbowel and no valid BC??
The requirements for eligibility for the presidency are in the Constitution. One of those is not release of tax returns.
They have to know this will get thrown out. States do not get to selectively impose conditions on people running for or holding federal office.
That said, this act would be unconstitutional. The U.S. Constitution sets the qualifications for the office of president. Illinois may not add to those qualifications. About 20 years ago, Arkansas tried to place term limits on Congressmen. SCOTUS determined that was a qualification for election that was outside the qualifications found in the U.S. Constitution and struck the Arkansas law down.
So now Illinois is writing its own federal laws? Ignore them and cut off any fed subsidies.
The only thing that will change the corrupt, one-party state of Illinois is bankruptcy. It won’t be pretty, but it needs to come soon.
8 years of living under Obama’s regime of tyrranical Hope and Change ecstasy had the psychorats thinking they had “Fundamentally Transformed America” once and for all,....then here come Trump to pop their rainbow colored bubbles
