I first saw 30 rd magazines in RVN. The grunts loaded 20 rounds in them & said they were more reliable that way; they had loaded no more than 15 to 18 rds in the 20 rd ones.

I've always loaded the old GI metal mags a couple of rounds light.

Never had any problem with a full load in pmags.
