I know that it’s silly for me to talk about actual law in this situation, but unless a particular illegal alien is claiming sanctuary from MEXICO, it is proper to send them there. They were supposed to claim sanctuary after crossing the border of the FIRST safe country.

The indictment was careful not to charge Assange with crimes that stem from his publishing the information provided by Mr. Manning. The indictment charges him with conspiring with Manning in the stealing of the information, including help with a password and encouraging him to do it. Whether Assange did that, I don’t know, but if he did, it is different than publication.
If they have the goods on him for conspiracy, they should do a plea bargain where he pleads guilty to a very short sentence in exchange for testifying on where the DNC emails came from. That may well be the plan. Q says they are the ones who have the source, not DS black hats. If so, that would be the way to go. However, until he is out of the UK (filled with DS bad folks) and in a military facility, I will worry about whether he is ever going to get a chance to testify.

Sadly true; he is connected to Seth Rich... there's a whole crib of corn right there to be shucked. We face dark evil but many of our folk are go-along-to-get-along.
