Would Patients Be Able to Escape BernieCare? (no)
Wall Street Journal ^ | April 11, 2019 | James Freeman

On Wednesday Sen. Bernie Sanders (Socialist, Vt.) rolled out this year’s version of his draft legislation to abolish traditional Medicare. He calls it “Medicare for All” because polls tell him that voters don’t want to abolish traditional Medicare. Voters also don’t want him to destroy the U.S. system of private medical insurance, but his plan would do that, too. A key question raised by the new bill is whether patients, doctors and nurses would be able to escape the new government-run system when it fails to provide needed care—as such systems always do.

Calling it “Medicare for All” is not the only deception. One section of his bill, entitled “Freedom of Choice,” includes the following text:

Any individual entitled to benefits under this Act may obtain health services from any institution, agency, or individual qualified to participate under this Act.

In other words, you are free to choose any doctor the federal government allows you to choose. On at least one point, Mr. Sanders is being honest. He’s not even trying to sell the Obama whopper that patients will get to keep the plans and the doctors they like.

Speaking of the private health plans that roughly half the country now enjoys, the legislative text from Mr. Sanders makes it clear that they would be put out of business. Also, employers can not operate their own plans to compete with the government plan. Section 107 of the draft bill states that once the plan is fully implemented:

...it shall be unlawful for— (1) a private health insurer to sell health insurance coverage that duplicates the benefits provided under this Act; or (2) an employer to provide benefits for an employee, former employee, or the dependents of an employee or former employee that duplicate the benefits provided under this Act.

All one would have to do is get your private doctor to take care of all your needs under his requirement to provide care as part of your “nose job”. The wealthy have already figured this out.

The article doesn’t say, but I’ll bet that Congress and staff and their families will be exempted, and have lifetime plans at special government hospitals. Just like in Bernie’s beloved USSR.

Bernie needs a one-way ticket out of here. He is an embarrassment to the USA.

Exaxtly! Just, keep calling it MedicAID for, all. When they try to correct you,, ignore, them. Just keep calling ir by its proper name. Jason Riley, a WSJ writer, did this once on TV (Fox News). We all need to this.

Sure, the Masters of the Universe will be annoyed...as they ever, are by truth. They will label it Hate Speech and try to stop it. Perhaps Winston Smith will be assigned to the job.

“Medicare for All” will make waiting 6 months for care at the VA look like the ‘good old times’...

I spoke with an ‘elite’ about this a few weeks ago - they plan on ‘opting out’ - paying private doctors directly and and having ‘memberships in private medical groups...’

In short we’ll all be getting horrible care and ‘elites’ will have doctor’s offices cleared out of ‘deplorables and democrat riffraff..’ Say hello to your doctor from India who looks down on you...

Currently we are free to choose any provider our health insurance company chooses. Which is increasingly problematic (witness the ugly UPMC-Highmark scrum here in Pittsburgh). I am afraid the voters are becoming numb to this argument.

Say hello to your doctor from India who looks down on you...

My father had one of those. One of his limited choices through UPMC. I am not saying Bernie's plan is a good one, but this limitation of doctor choices is already occurring in the existing system.

I do not trust Dem-socialists to do anything that will benefit the people. They and their think tank policy wonks like Gruber took us down one debacle already. That was the Affordable Care Act aka Obamacare. It was neither affordable or care. They all lied about the plan. Dems-socialists have no credibility with me. I. Don’t. Trust. Them.

We paid into Social Security & Medicare. Leave it alone.

I bet many patients will escape Bernie care by ceasing uptake of oxygen. Especially the used up, older crowd (other than Bernie and his cohorts, of course).
