Maybe if I had Alexa I could order something from Amazon without having to jump hoops for fifteen minutes.
A while back I tried to purchase one book from Amazon. Put in cart, proceed to checkout...and then they wanted me to open an account or remember my password if I’d ever bought from them before, and that required connecting with me via email for a code, and then they said they already had my email on file and would I like a password reset or a new account...and then another code to email and a password...and then they didn’t care for my new address. At that point I went to ebay, bought the item there in about sixty seconds. With free shipping, saving $7 (Amazon’s rate).
I’m told Amazon also charges more for films than it used to.
I think Amazon makes more money from our data than it does from our purchases, since they make it easy to give them data but hard to give them $20 for a book.
I’ll have Alexa when Alexa can execute the command, “Alexa, go cut the lawn.”
You got it.
Those hoops you are jumping through are becoming SOP for any online retailer that deals in digital media and Amazon is one of the largest online retailers that deals with digital media. They don’t want people grabbing your name and data to sign up an account and download a bunch of digital media using stolen credit cards etc.
