“We knew he was going to turn Washington into a cesspool”
Yes; we knew the minute he made noises about getting into the presidential race. And we kept asking how others could not see him for what he was and NOT know what he would do to Washington — and us. I still get riled when I replay from my memory my MIL saying, “I think we should give that nice young black man a chance.” Arrrrgggh!!
My own daughter was attending the University of Oregon when he was campaigning there. She went to his rally and called me while walking back to her house. “Oh, Dad. I just heard th ebest candidate ever - Barack Obama, He is just the greatest. He wants to change things.”
“That’s nice, sweetheart. You’ve had a really good life growing up. What is it exactly that YOU think needs changing in America.”
“Gotta go, Dad.” Click. Line dead. We don’t discuss politics. I never have gotten an answer to “what needs changing?”
