What you wrote about him reminds me of the approach the Republicans took at the Blakey-Ford / Kavanaugh hearing when they brought in Rachel Mitchell, the experienced sex crimes prosecutor in Maricopa County, Arizona. She had that friendly, disarming, aw-shucks demeanor while she was skewering Blakey-Ford.
