So I saw this coming a long way out, mostly whenever we finally got a new AG, but if I could see it coming, so could the FBI. At the very minimum, it probably means lots of time to cover tracks. But on the more paranoia/conspiracy level, i wondered if it meant a coming power struggle between the two.

For the most part, the (bad?) old leaders/culprits are out, so I’m probably wayyy out in left field with this line of thinking. But still, the natural tribal instinct is a powerful one; protect your own side.
Who else doesn’t see the FBI taking this with a spoon full of sugar?

To the extent any of the spying was electronic, the NSA will have picked it up. That’s what is so stupid about the FBI.

They don’t call the FBI ‘Famous But Incompetent’ for nothing.

They thought they’d win so the tracks aren’t well hidden. And even if they lost, they couldn’t imagine how Trump would handle things. They should be happy if they don’t hang.

Internal surveillance certainly can be assigned to target within these agencies (and do no require a FISA warrant, but are a function of the Inspector General for each—all of whom work for the Executive Branch, and the Chief Executive. So this is interesting to say the least.
