$1000 a week is a start.

And a good subsidy for every petty thief, drug dealer, welfare cheat and all sorts of others living on the fringes of legal society.

[[How do these people make such enormous sums of money without having a BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF ECONOMICS ?]]

Low info people willingly hand over their hard earned money to support folks like this- that’s how AOC got elected-

because our economy is now so vast at $20 trillion, up $5 trillion in the last 12 years, a value-added tax at even half the European level would generate over $800 billion in new revenue."

VAT tax

1) VAT is incompatible with limited government.
2) VATs harm consumers through increased prices and broader tax bases. Unlike state sales taxes, VATs are charged in small amounts along the entire supply chain. The final tax is hidden in the price and borne by consumers, as corporations pass increased costs on to the final user. Due to their hidden nature, VATs tend to grow over time, and 26 of the 33 advanced nations with VATs have raised their rates.
3) in advanced countries, parliaments, congresses, and assemblies don’t get rid of other taxes. They add the VAT on top of existing levies.
4) OECD countries, with their VATs, should have higher growth rates than the United States. But since 2009 growth in gross domestic product has averaged 2.2% annually in the United States, compared to an OECD average of 1.8%.
5) VATs are not a progressive tax, because the poor spend a higher share of their income than the rich.
6) people are tempted to purchase services on the black market to avoid VAT.
7) VATs are unpopular with governors because they interfere with states’ sales tax collections, a state staple of revenue generation. Adding a VAT on top of a state sales tax would reduce the revenues that states pull in from sales taxes, as consumption is reduced and economic activity is partly driven into the black market.

America needs to move away from European policies, not towards them.

"To me the main driver of his victory was that we automated away 4 million manufacturing jobs in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, the swing states he needed to win," Yang said.
Those jobs didn't vanish due to automation -- they vanished because they went overseas to lower-wage countries, IOW, whatever benefits resulted from unionization, it was union greed that helped destroy those jobs. Piling MORE taxes on everyone in order to pay some (obviously it isn't going to be everyone) a grand a month results in no net gain. In fact, to keep it revenue neutral, existing transfer payment programs would have to be discontinued. Literally the only difference in cost would be the elimination of bureaucratic overhead -- via, you guessed it, AUTOMATION. Yang is just a wang.

“Something for Nothing” is the oldest scam since the Dawn of Mankind. It’s a notoriously easy sell, but it has never worked, nor will it ever.

If UBI is implemented, poverty is officially over.
Everybody gets $PovertyLine+$1, no more poverty - you blow that, it’s your problem.

Universal basic income helps CAUSE the problems that got Donald Trump elected.

Sheesh.

Having lived most of my life in inner city shitholes, the first & most glaringly obvious observation I made, was that people with JOBS simply did not have the TIME to loiter all night on the streets, being criminals & crackheads, while cruising for multiple sex partners to spawn more wards of the state.

People with JOBS have to go to sleep at night, while the crackheads are getting high, so they can get up & go to work in the morning while the crackheads are sleeping.

People with JOBS spend their off-hours polishing their resumes, looking for better paying JOBS so they can move out of the inner city shitholes into safer (& ever more expensive) neighborhoods.

But the g-d- leftwing loonies keep moving the g-d- crackheads into my neighbood & taking my earnings to give the crackheads free rent, so there’s no place safe or affordable for me anymore.

No jobs do. And restoring the tariffs help create those jobs.

Universal income is just another safety net program that will drive up debt and reduce the incentive to work without resolving the core problem the lack of jobs due to offshoring.

Universal income might become necessary at some point if the labor dislocations become severe due to automation. But by itself it makes the problem worse not better.

They don’t want people to have jobs, because once they realize how it feels to be independent, the commies will start to lose power.

Of all the things that FDR can rightly be criticized for, at least his programs like the WPA forced people to go out and WORK for their government check.

This preserved the work ethic for millions through some very dark times, and left us with parks, trails and public buildings which are still useful today.

200 million people over 18 time 1000 per month.
200 billion per month times 12 months.
1.4 trillion per year.
What could possibly be wrong with that?

Oh, you think people like YOU are getting this money? Ha ha ha ha! People like you (us) will be PAYING for it! There will be an income test. There will be a intersectional victim-hood test. There will be a social media score test. Just more "redistribution of wealth".
