It was former members of Iran's "Republican Guard" that shot down flight 800 back in 1996. They were hired by a wealthy Iranian family to get revenge for when the USS Vincennes shot down Iran Air flight 655.
They were also very active in furnishing IEDs to Iraqi insurgents which killed many of our soldiers.
