Everyone has McAleenan’s appointment dead wrong. When an immigrant child died while in CBP Custody while CBP was transporting the child to the hospital. Dem heads exploded and immediately called for his resignation. Mr. McAleenan was absolutely pissed.
No longer is CBP diverting resources from across the country to ease the flow of trade at the border. Instead, he is diverting people from trade lanes to assist with Immigrant Processing. This has the Trade howling but tough cookies. Unlike the past when CBP went out of its way to keep things running as smooth as possible, McAleenan now wants the Trade (and the country) to feel the result of the border crush.
One last thing, McAleenan joined CBP as a result of 9/11 and became the first internal person ever named to head the agency. He’s a good one.
