The media is missing the point about the presidents inherent and delegated authority to deny entry at the border and the most prudent way to use it. Through statute and case law, the presidents 212(f) authority overrides all other immigration processes, including asylum requests, but its important to remember that its not an all-or-nothing proposition. Its not an on-or-off circuit breaker on the operation of our border. There are modules on that switch that the president can engage to strategically address the current situation.
Lets again review the language of the relevant statute, 8 U.S.C. §1182(f):
Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.
Even if the rest of the general operating statutes were broken (they are not), this statute alone supplies the president with all the authority he needs to deal with such an urgent and devastating crisis, at least in the relative short run. If members of Congress were to get together and craft a new law with the intent of giving the president more power to shut down what is happening today, they could not conceivably have written anything strong than this existing law, which has been in place, in some form, since 1893, particularly to keep out those with diseases.
The law is saying that the president can shut down all migration or any type of migration, while leaving others in place.
Free Traitors will never learn that the best deal would be no deal and a 25% import tariff.
Irrelevant. Trump is using the idea that shutting down the border would hurt us economically as an excuse not to shut down the border. But that excuse doesn't fly because he could still allow trade/commerce if he wanted.
Trump has done a lot of good things for the country, but he has come up short lately on immigration, the key reason he was elected,. he needs to find his way back to being tough again. If not, we will eventually be destroyed by reckless immigration policies.
We can adapt. Trump was bluffing all along, he was never going to shut the border down. he does this often, and it doesn't work. he needs to shut the border down with or without commerce (his choice) --demand the wall be fully funded and congress legislate better asylum laws-- or leave the border shut down indefinitely.
I for one am tired of excuses.
Whose economy? If you mean the globalist corporate economy? Then yes it will be hurt a little. The US worker? It will HELP them in every way.
And then some enterprising individual or entity will figure out a way to grow all the avocados needed and fill the void. Maybe get into some of the urban farming where they take abandoned warehouses and grow everything in hydroponics.
Someone will fill the void.
Chris Plante suggested they put Merck on it to create an avocado supplement in a pill to get libs through these trying times. A Manhattan Project for the little snowflakes.
See, I KNEW you were Ann Coulter.
LOL!
I’m just mocking all those Freepers who jumped on Ann for saying, essentially, the same thing you did.
She just beat you to the punch by some weeks.
Guacamole or sovereignty..hmmm tough choice.
He’s giving Congress a chance to do its job - when he breaks out the hardball, there will be no one with grounds to complain he’s going around the do-nothing Congress...
he does this often, and it doesn’t work.
I beg to differ. From Mexicos response, to China negotiations, to NK negotiations, to NATO...working OK so far.
