It began when Palo Alto resident Rebecca Parker Mankey attempted to shame an elderly white man wearing a red Make America Great Again hat as he sat in the coffeehouse an encounter she later wrote about on social media. Calling him a "hater of brown people," Mankey said she yelled at him and addressed Starbucks customers and employees to join her in her effort. She said she left the store but soon returned and continued to yell at him. Mankey said she was "heartbroken" that other white people didn't stand up against the man wearing what has become for some a symbol of hate. She followed him out of the store to the parking lot, where she continued to berate and swear at him.
She called the man "Nazi scum" and threatened to post pictures of him on social media, which she then did, along with her version of the incident on her Facebook page and on Twitter. She asked the public for help finding him "I want him to have nowhere to hide," she wrote -- a practice called "doxing," or posting personal contact information to encourage threats and harassment.
The incident has had repercussions not only for Mankey, who said on Tuesday she's received death threats and was fired from her job as an accountant, but also for her former employer, Gryphon Stringed Instruments. Staff at the store said they were inundated with angry phone calls and emails Monday and Tuesday.

To WHAT I don't know.
Man those comments on that site are disturbing.
"Well, if he hadn't provoked her like that by wearing a hat, it would have been okay",
"It's so tough being in a room with a Trump supporter", etc.
I’m 75 years old and because I read about this incident yesterday, I bought two Trump caps.
Check Post 38. Her Husband is pictured there, Will Mankey.
So that thing is married. To WHAT I don’t know.
Id bet a weeks pay its to a single-mommied mangina, and that strap-ons are involved.
“That is not my dog.” One of the best skits ever. I can still hear it playing in my head. And I still laugh.
Well written article IMHO. There are still some journalists out there practicing journalism.
Need to check that sites status tomorrow...
Enter into a relationship with her? I wouldn’t even allow LAZ to hit it.
Will Mankey????
I have a Trump 2020 sticker on my back window of my truck (only liberals and stupid people put them on their bumpers). I’ve had a few negative reactions but way more people with thumbs up and other people agree with me when I’m out of the vehicle. “ you toucha my truck, I breaka you face” That’s an oldy but a goody.
I wrote Steven Lee an e-mail, trying to sound as Palo Alto-ish as I could, and may God grant that it provokes a bit of thought on his part. Here it is:

Dear Steven,
Thank you for attempting a peaceable response in relation to the recent incident where an elderly Jewish man was verbally accosted and assailed because of his MAGA hat.
It is commendable for you to try to add a voice of reason in this fraught situation.
Looking at your statement --- as quoted in PaloAltoOnline.com --- that "the MAGA hat at its best represents a distorted and inaccurate view of America, its history, and its place in the world, and, at its worst, is a symbol of hate and everything that is wrong with America today." --- I wonder if that is quite fair.
Certainly the man in the MAGA hat did not intend to communicate these hateful sentiments. It is an odious thing to be accused of being a hater when hating is the furthest thing from your mind.
To impute malevolent intentions to someone on scant evidence, on no evidence, or against the evidence, is a form of rash judgment.
You did not intend rash judgment, I think, but, from another point of view, it hurts when such a prejudicial judgment is made over and over again. At length, some people feel perfectly justified in confronting and threatening an old man on the basis of his hat (!) and a rather innocuous slogan, for heaven's sake.
How does anybody know what the redhatted person's ideas are?
A reasonable approach would be to approach the man courteously and ask, perhaps, "Say, that's an attention-getting hat. What do you mean by it?"
That would be an interesting discussion.
Still with me, here? Then thank you for reading this long e-mail, and I hope we may someday meet and make each others' better acquaintance.
Sincerely,
[signed]

Please consider writing to Steven Lee. Looks like a 20-something Asian to me. He needs to be nudged into the right path.
And please don't think it's useless. I used to be a young left-leaning sprout like him. Somebody nudged me good..
I suspect there are many progressive women who are in for a rude awakening once discussion has ended.
I saw a picture of her pre-Mohawk. She looked okay, maybe a little asiatic.
Try as I might, I cannot recall ever reading about Conservatives attacking people wearing Obama hats or t-shits during his presidency. In fact, I have never seen an Obama t-shirt in person, only on people wearing them in police mugshots.
Early Grayce: “Hey, shave that dog an’ teach it to hunt!”
I was just wondering if she forgot to put the fetal leg bone in her nose that morning.
If something that alien walked through my front door at night, I would kill it, A LOT.
Absolutely not. I’ll wager that her grossly unattractive appearance is her way of broadcasting a deep seated list of things she hates and disrespects. And males would be at the top of that list.
I have met some very attractive women who were like that on the inside. I steered clear of them. Well, that is *after* I got run over by the first one LOL. Her ex husband told me many year later that I owed him big time for saving me 11 years of hell (his internment with her). We had dinner recently, nice guy.
Who says you’d ever wake up if you got in the cot with her. A ‘sleep with one eye open’ for sure
Then why make a statement exuding hateful rhetoric, and duplicitous redefinition, Steve?
You wouldn’t have to restrain LAZ; maybe he has no taste, but he does have COMMON SENSE.
:)
