Maybe I’m missing something. Most are requesting asylum at border crossing points. Most drugs are being seized at those same crossing points. By closing them, doesn’t that squeeze the asylum requesters and the illegal entry of drugs to points of the border with less chance to seize or apprehend the people or the drugs?

That is already happening. Most now are coming over deserted areas, not ports of entry.
