McConnell is finally doing what has been threatened for over a year, to reduce floor debate time to get around Democrat obstruction where they invoke 30 hours of debate even for non-controversial non-debatable nominees. That drags out the process interminably./.../
/..../This should help speed along the process, particularly for judicial nominees. There remain many empty seats to fill, and Republicans want as many as possible filled prior to the 2020 election, just in case.

Excellent.
I hope the Republicans stick with it.
will he happy when it gets upheld and is implemented
‘the majority leader raises a point of order that only a simple majority is needed to close debate on certain matters. The presiding officer denies the point of order based on Senate rules, but the ruling of the chair is then appealed and overturned by majority vote, establishing new precedent.’
It's delicious. :-)
FWIW, the Founders put in place a majority vote for Senate confirmation. They anticipated rapid transitions and legislation
Quit pontificating and do it, Cocaine Mitch.
I know a LOT of Freepers hate Smitch but he and Lindsey are working overtime to do this. I hate to admit it but without Graham and McConnell talking to those “other” idiot RINO’s on the senate, we would not have Kavanaugh.
What ticks me off is the pubbies will get out the bipartisan rubber stamp for the next Rat president.
Oh yeah, that’s a given. That’s why they need these judges to cover their asses just in case..

They are. I just hope Graham leaving the Blue Slip process in place for District Court Judge nominees doesnt come back to bite us.
Mitt Romney is probably not happy about this.
like watching grass grow.
He has been announcing it every week for the past few weeks. Hope it happens soon...
Hes been doing it using regular order. Fruition comes this week.
If one ever worked in a pre-school, they’ll have a pretty good idea of what McConnell has to deal with every day, as leader of the Senate Republicans.
Good one!
I no longer lump McConnell with RINO Ryan. Yertle has his yuses.
I really cant stand McConnell HOWEVER he has done a GREAT JOB on the courts!!! The BIG one for me was holding up the SCOTUS nomination during an election year!! The Dems NEVER DREAMED Trump could win and just didnt raise a stink about it!!! LOL, LOL, LOL,!!!!
Nice work Turtle. Now RAM ‘em all through.
Yea, it’s a tough situation for McConnnell. He has two weak Republicans, Murkowski and Collins, probably another 8 conservatives who will stray once in a while, and the rest are pretty much with him whenever he needs them.
So what’s better? Call out them out each time they stray, only to weaken them and have them replaced with Democrats? Even Murkowski, our weakest Republican, still votes much more conservative than Manchin, who is the most conservative Democrat in the Senate. There used to be some overlap, but now there’s absolutely none - so losing anyone hurts our side.
I remember at least one person here saying something like “Don’t worry about Manchin, he’s as conservative as any Republican”. All one has to do is look at his record on guns, Obamacare, and most of the contested nominations - to put that to shame.
So McConnell takes the arrows rather than losing the seats...it’s a better strategy than taking out flimsy Republicans with the result being to have 35 solid Republicans (with all RINOs gone), opposed by 65 Democrats - that much is for sure!
Working overtime? Surely you jest.
McConnell should have done this in the first 30 days of the Trump administration once he realized how obstructive the Dems were intending to be.
McConnell keeps skirting criticism from most conservatives. He’s the reason we got nothing done for two years and that makes him also the reason the GOP lost the House.
Maybe he’s finally getting over his TDS, or maybe he’s finally realized he needs to keep from losing the Senate if he’s going to retain his power. More likely the latter.
