Now why would the US be selling F-35’s to Turkey in the first place?!?!?

This was a stoppage of sending spare parts. When and by whom were the original F-35s sold? Glad to see them cracking down on Erdowan. Of course, he may now try to buy the F-35 equivalent from Russia, which we may also not like unless we prefer to make Putin happy.

F-35’s suck and don’t work so it seems like a good idea to me.

Turkey was part of the Joint Strike Fighter Program, way back in the 1990s. I wonder if there are public records of what the member nations donated to the R&D effort? I've seen some numbers from the U.K. and Canada, but never for the other members. Somehow I doubt that the Turks contributed much.
Looking back now, it seems like an ill-conceived part of the post-Cold War "victory lap"... procurement bureaucrats gone mad.

Now why would the US be selling F-35s to Turkey in the first place?!?!? Pre-Erdogan and the Islamic Fundamentalist tilt..., Turkey was a valued NATO member. Now, after purging thousands of the military who were secular and Western oriented..., it is but the proverbial "Camel's Nose Under the NATO Tent"

The real question is why a NATO “ally” buy a Russian air defense system? Why are they still in NATO?

Believe me, Erdogan is sharing F-35 data with Russia.

Because Turkey is a NATO ally and is treaty bound to defend the US if it is attacked. Plus Lockheed Martin gets to make some money.
Now, here is a question for you. Why is Turkey in NATO? Bonus question. Should Turkey remain in NATO?

Apparently we have been doing this for 20 years or more. Remember when we wanted to use their air bases to move our planes to Iraq. Quid pro Quo?
