What befuddles me is that this was Monsanto’s problem until Bayer decided to acquire them last year.

Why on earth would ANY company want to take on the liability for hundreds of millions of dollars in potential settlements?

My conspiracy theory at the time was to cut the Germans in on GMO’s in order to tamp-down on the anti-GMO sentiment in the EU. But surely it’s not worth this.

Monsanto probably has other valuable ag developments in their research pipeline that Beyer wanted.
