What in the heck happened to Italy? First there was the debt problem, then the dealing with China that presumably is going to go their way even though recent history tells us it will not, and now we have this horrendousness. Oh, and the pope.

Italy has a problem, They are bullseyes on the terrorist target. They know the threat, and the government is doing what it can. While in Florence recently I saw every Piazzo under construction of antiterrorist barriers. Carabinieri with automatic weapons in plain sight, during daytime as well as night.

They are clearly on alert, as Firenze is the mother lode of icons of western civilization.
