Josef Stalin returns to Siberia's largest city, to outrage of many locals
Siberian Times ^ | 28 Mar 2019 | Igor Serebryany

Joseph Stalin visited Novosibirsk only once in 1928.

The monument to him was dismantled, along with those in other Soviet cities, in th early 1960s. And now he is to return, though in private.

Local Communists have been struggling to rebuild the statue since 2016, and their struggle eventually brings fruit.

The city's mayoral office nodded, however reluctantly, to the Stalinists' demand to erect a statue of Stalin by May 9, the Russian V-Day.

Unlike the huge original monument at Novosibirsk main square, the replica will be way more modest: only three metres tall, and placed in a private yard owned by the Party's regional committee.

Monuments of Stalin have already been erected in dozens of cities across Russia, beside Novosibirsk. Nearly all of them have been placed on private land...Novosibirsk’s Stalin is no exception.

The monuments started to mushroom in early 2000s, shortly after Vladimir Putin came to power. But the trend has not been smooth everywhere.

In October 2016, the city of Surgut municipality in Western Siberia ordered to remove a bust of Stalin built in a public park without approval of the authorities and following the protest of the local residents.

Still, Suraikin is not embarrassed that appearance of Stalin statues causes controversy.

‘Russian mentality is such that some things sacred for one could be blasphemy for others. For instance, having been a devoted Stalinist, I am also an atheist.

'But I don’t call on my fellow party members to bring down Orthodox crosses. This would be the same vandalism as dismantling monuments to Stalin,’ he said.

Looks like cheap papier mache. It would be more realistic if they built it using ground human bones with blood as the binder. They'd have enough for a few thousand statues.

And all for a guy who wasn't even Russian ...

Did the Orthodox church murder millions of Russians? I guess I missed that history lesson.

When they re-name St. Pete back to Lenningrad, that’s when I’ll know that they’ve gone back to being Communist.

And by the way, the crap that the Deep State pulled on Trump puts anything that Putin has done to shame.

We need to gift them some of our socialist justice workers, who are experts on destroying statues and busts.

How in the world it made headlines but a 5 ft snowman on my lawn didn’t??

Those guys would lay flowers at the base of the Stalin statue instead. By the way, in socialist Seattle there is a large statue of Lenin. That's Seattle, USA.

Bloody Lenin, OK. Robert E. Lee, not OK.

And on the pedestal, these words appear:

My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings;

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

Just pretend would be about right - the workers pretended to make a statue out of metal, and the state pretended it was metal. This goes with the state in Stalin’s time pretending to pay the workers who pretended to work.

Siberia would be a perfect place to develope with prison labor. Stalin did it wrong. Make it voluntary. Pay them minimum wage. Use American prison labor. Develop the region to keep the Chicoms in check. They know who their real enemy is and so doo we.

They rapidly industrialized, but at horrific cost; Red China did the same thing.

When you don’t view these events through a Judeo-Christian prism, they are completely understandable. When the Khmer Rouge re-set the calendar to “Year Zero” and killed nearly 1/4 of their population, they went into it with their eyes open; they wanted a traditional agrarian paradise, and Western innovation and medicine had basically produced a much larger population than primitive farming could sustain. They brutally culled the herd, but it only lasted four years. If all cultures are equal, who are we to judge? /s

Stalin killed millions but is still revered by too many. We don’t want any copies of Stalin appearing. It would likely lead to World War 3 and humanity won’t recover from another one.

But even their industrialization was a failure. Their products were cobbled-together junk. And they sacrificed much of their agricultural production in favor of the pretended industrial buildup. They starved while they horse-whipped people into building junk no one wanted or could afford.

The dismal failure of communism ...

It was poorly executed but by the end of WWII they were mass-producing weapons on an unprecedented scale; they’d come a long way in 20 years.
