The appearances are a matter of record. Who she has retained outside of that is none of the court’s business.

“Experts say that the curcio hearing was called because of the legal issues Avenatti and Geragos now have. The judge will want Bronfman to openly state in court that she will not try to put the federal case on hold on account of not having her counsel available.”

The purpose of a Curcio hearing is to make sure a criminal defendant has adequate representation with no conflicts of interest. Supposedly, Bronfman has been paying for all the defendants lawyers, which raises an inference she is buying silence. A lawyer can accept payment of fees from a third party, but there has to be informed consent, full disclosure and no interference with the lawyer's independent duties to that client. The judge needs to know who is representing her as well as everyone else so he can evaluate if there are any conflicts.

This woman is filthy rich. She can afford any lawyer in America. Why is she staking her freedom on these slimeballs?

The purpose of a Curcio hearing is to present relevant facts and information to a defendant in a criminal proceeding so that the defendant can make an informed decision as to whether their current attorney can provide them with adequate and sufficient representation given that the attorney has a potential conflict-of-interest. So, the question is appropriate given the circumstances.
