From wiki:

On August 16, 1975, Bundy was arrested by Utah Highway Patrol officer Bob Hayward in Granger (another Salt Lake City suburb).[151] Hayward had observed Bundy cruising a residential area in the pre-dawn hours; Bundy fled the area at high speed after seeing the patrol car.[152] The officer searched the car after he noticed that the Volkswagen's front passenger seat had been removed and placed on the rear seats.

Not exactly a normal traffic stop, but close. Bundy did something dumb, and got busted.

But then he escaped the jail in Aspen. Was caught a month later when he pulled an illegal u-turn.

He escaped again from Aspen and went to Florida where he killed the soroity girls.

He was caught again after a high-speed chase - but not sure how the chase started.
