Oh, they will absolutely pay for their own military and have expressed the desire thereof. Just takes a certain type of leader. All the pieces are already in place too in the Treaty of Lisbon, and the Bundeswehr has even been taking over parts of the military of the Netherlands, Slovenia and certain other countries adjacent to them as the beginnings of a EU military. They actually want NATO gone because it keeps them down.

The “EU army” only exists because those other countries slashed their military. Then Putin started shooting and they look like idiots so sudden the “EU Army” is born. The only target the EU Army will ever attack with is Google or Facebook HQ. Guaranteed.
The only news article I found was from the Japan Times, and it said Germany “could” cut their military spending.
But that is related to NATO and not their own ambitions, take note. Like I said, they want NATO gone so they can move ahead with those.
