I once knew a representative from a large company, and he would visit me on occasion to check on status, peddle new products or features and such. He was young, stocky, with a blonde flat top crewcut, and he was from Australia with a very rich Aussie accent. I liked him, and he seemed very much like a rugby player you might encounter in a bar having a Guinness.

It was that accent, which many Americans (including myself) can be suckers for...it just invites familiarity!

“Heya Mate! What’s on with ya?” type of thing...

So I see him at a conference talking to someone, and as I approach, I can hear the conversation as he speaks...in completely unaccented “American” English!

I found it hilarous...I never let on that I knew it was just an angle for him to turn on and off as needed...:)

I’m convinced that a significant number of the votes she received was primarily or exclusively because of her hyphenated latina last name. Tribal votes by ignorant people who had no idea who she was or anything about her, other than their belief that she’s one of them based on her name.

Same with Loretta Brixey winning in Santa Ana, CA. Oops, I mean Loretta Sanchez, the married woman who suddenly rediscovered her maiden name when she entered politics.
