Alex Berenson .. people who think marijuana is medicine and a safe alternative to alcohol are fooling themselves...
The industrys money and political influence, along with the medias acquiescence, have obscured the scientific links between marijuana and mental illness...
The problems are real and right in front of people, he told a crowd at the History Colorado Center in Denver on Wednesday. It was his third Colorado talk in two days to discuss his new book, Tell Your Children: The Truth About Marijuana, Mental Illness, and Violence.
Its like we all need glasses. ... The connection to psychosis is real.
...
Berenson cited a new study published in The Lancet Psychiatry journal that found people who use cannabis daily are three times more likely than non-users to eventually have a psychotic episode. Those who use high-potency pot are four times more likely, and those who starting getting high before age 15 carry even more risk, the study found.
This is more evidence that the link between cannabis and psychosis matters, Krista M. Lisdahl, a clinical neuropsychologist at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, told National Public Radio.
Berensons book makes the case that not enough has been done scientifically to explore whether pot poses serious mental health risks for its users, especially younger ones.
The author, a father of two and husband of a forensic psychiatrist, said the data tells him that pot could lead to psychosis and schizophrenia for heavy users.
...
I was a pretty good investigative reporter, because I often saw the way companies would deceive, especially when theres money on the line, he said. I mention that because I think this story of cannabis legalization is a story of deception, but its also sort of self-deception.

Or did the studies put the cart before the horse. In that those studied were already at an increased risk before the Marijuana use and were self medicating.
All of the Psychologists or Psychiatrist, I have ever been around were Psychotics trying to find out what is wrong with themselves including my own brother with a Psychology degree.
Hard to distinguish that from the goals achieved by the right.
That wont do it for me. Cigarette smokers rarely babble incoherently. LOL

Smoking marijuana is much like smoking cigarettes... when the damage shows up its too late and for some people it causes no damage and others its a death sentence.
My Grandparents both smoked Chesterfields’ 3 to 4 packs a day... one went to 93 without an issue, the other lived in hell on earth with chronic Emphysema then congestive heart failure done at 64.
Your mileage may vary.
Personal friend from childhood smoked marijuana from age 16 till 44.. got lost driving to work in the town he grew up in.age 44... was put on Alzheimer’s medication, lost driver’s license while on those meds, recovered from it and no longer smokes marijuana
The author is literally a NY Times fiction writer.
I have a family member that everyone knows smokes. He’s an absolute idiot most times. My kids think he’s funny. I told them they are not to grow up and be like him.
That was great.
One drink does not make one drunk.
One smoke does make one stupid.
Have there been any studies on what the use of marijuana by pregnant females has on the brains of their developing embryos?
The drunk driver blows past a stop sign. The stoned driver sits there waiting for it to turn green.
Just curious - have they also looked into whether these propensities may be there before and may be a reason why one ends up indulging regularly?
Or are they just assuming the pot causes them and the issues weren’t germane to the high use of pot....
Not saying they’re wrong, just saying the study ain’t necessarily 100% valid.
I believe this. My parents often say the same. My generation however...it's much harder to tell. Too many dead brains, and they can't all be caused by serious mj use.
My ex got way into weed after we broke up, and first he got paranoid. Then after a couple years he became convinced that the ghost of Gandhi was coming to his room at night to talk about the end of the world in 2012.
And I resent their presence. They have nothing to offer and if an original thought ever crossed their vacuous minds, it'd be the shortest trip on the planet.
They have no credibility and no forum because libertarianism is stupid. It only appeals to addicts. Addicts applaud anything that enables their addiction.
But they're here. On a conservative forum. Go figure.
No, it most certainly is not!
LOL! My favorite pothead joke.
“Whereas, alcohol makes them clever?”
The negatives associated with alcohol do not make marijuana safe.
Human beings have always had a tendency to take things that destroy them.
