The man put his life on the line for our country. He sacrificed greatly, and everyone has a breaking point. Most will never know theirs because they will never volunteer themselves to be in position for it to be tested.
That said, his service in politics was corrupt, dishonest and self serving. He betrayed his family, his country, his party, and his constituents. In the end, he proved that he hated Trump more than he loved his country. That will be his legacy.

The man was in a privileged position because he was the child and grandchild of Admirals.
He was a slacker at the academy (5th from the bottom of his class) and a slacker while on active duty (5 crashes...3 non-combat related) and a collaborator who actively helped the enemy while captured.
He then leveraged a legend created about him to spring him into politics. And God help anybody who dared to question his "heroic" service.
