Sen. Isakson calls Trump's McCain remarks 'deplorable,' but few GOP colleagues weigh in

The Georgia senator is one of just two lawmakers within the GOP conference to directly criticize Trump publicly over his recent round of attacks on McCain.

One Republican senator pointedly called President Donald Trump’s comments disparaging the late Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., “deplorable” on Wednesday — one of only two GOP lawmakers to weigh in on the latest controversy. Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., said that Trump’s remarks over the past several days had been inappropriate.

“I want to be crystal clear: We can talk about the politics of the military any way we want to, but we don’t talk about veterans any way but to brag on them for the service they render and the job that they do,” he told radio interviewer Bill Nigut of Georgia Public Broadcasting.

“It’s deplorable what he said... It will be deplorable seven months from now if he continues to say it, and I will continue to speak out.”

Can not understand this either. McCain is dead, not a threat and IMO these rants about McCain hurt Trump. I despise John McCain but to have a one way and ongoing battle with a dead man makes Trump look ridiculous.

You know what the best thing about Trump is?

He isn’t afraid of his own shadow like every other chickenshit Republican out there.

This also means that Graham KNEW they were joined at the hip!! I think Graham has seen what a farce this whole thing was and has grown a conscience OR is hoping Trump will forgive him!!!

Exactly right.

We have LGBTQWTFBBQ generals.

And here in this thread it seems like we have some wishing for the typical GOP eunuchs.

Isakson wants you to know that he is a Bush League Republican and will defend all the other Bush League Republicans who have been hell bent on turning the USA into North Mexico.

I get it and all that. However, Trump went very rogue on McCain during the campaign and now people know why and with the truth out McCain looks like the smaller of the two men. Now Trump is getting the last word with someone who does not or never will have the last word. It’s just silly to me.

He was not respected by his peers.

I think it’s okay for Trump give McCain a noisy eviction—if it means he won’t live rent-free in his head anymore.

McCain tried to take Trump out. He personally took the dossier to Comey after sending his aide to London to pick it up. His assistant, Kramer, then spread the dossier to 13 media outlets and to the State Department.

Two hours before McCain voted on Obamacare Trump spoke to him on the phone and McCain assured him that he would vote for repeal. Mike Pence met face to face with McCain an hour before the vote and McCain promised he would vote for repeal. He lied and voted against repeal giving Trump no opportunity to try to find someone else to vote for repeal.

Trump approved the lavish funeral arrangements for McCain that were quasi Presidential. The McCain family never thanked him and instead, used the funeral to attack Trump.

I can understand completely the intense dislike Trump has for McCain who was part of the attempted coup to take out a sitting President. Trump is far more restrained than I would be. The continuing attacks and investigations resulting from a hoax perpetrated by Hillary, Deep State, and Obama for over two years would drive me insane.

I agree. Thank God that SOB is DEAD! The more McCain is trashed the more people will feel sorry for him. Forget him and be happy he is dead. Answer no more questions about the bastard.

Trump has always been his own worst enemy but that has always been the way he responds. So take it with a grain of salt and get over it. He is still our president. Thank God for that.

Yep. The Donald disrupts the narrative.

McCain was a vain, selfish, vindictive traitorous sh*t.

Just ask his first wife who waited years for his return from Hanoi who he dumped.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carol_McCain

Her ex-husband would later state that he felt the demise of his marriage was due to his “selfishness and immaturity more than it was to Vietnam, and I cannot escape blame by pointing a finger at the war. The blame was entirely mine.”

Regarding her divorce, McCain said, “The breakup of our marriage was not caused by my accident or Vietnam or any of those things. I don’t know that it might not have happened if John had never been gone. I attribute it more to John turning 40 and wanting to be 25 (Cindy, home wrecker!) again than I do to anything else.”
