Exactly. You can’t abolish the electoral college without an Amendment, and the structure of getting an Amendment is antithetical to passing without a lot of states and their equally weighted Senators
They don’t have to abolish it to ‘get around it’. They can do like several states have done ... say that their electoral votes go to the popular vote winner in the country. They haven’t abolished the Electoral College, but they have done an ‘end run’ around it, while still using it.
