County officials say ICE, not their policy, to blame for releasing homicide suspect

Santa Clara County officials are firing back at critics who say their policy of not notifying immigration authorities when undocumented immigrants are released from their jails led to the release of a homicide suspect who had nine detention orders issued against him.

The suspect Carlos Eduardo Arevalo-Carranza, 24, is suspected of stabbing to death Bambi Larson, 59, in her South San Jose home last month.

Maricela Gutiérrez, executive director of the Services, Immigrant Rights & Education Network (SIREN), said any interaction with immigration authorities would have a chilling effect on the willingness of undocumented immigrants and others to come forward to report violent crimes in an already hostile political climate.

F the undocumented immigrants. An American citizen woman was stabbed to death in her home, left alone to die, found by her son. Murdered by an illegal immigrant thug.

CA officials have made it clear that they will protect fraudulently documented foreigners at the expense of US citizens.

“They blame ICE? Riiiiiight.”

Yes, and in some sense, ICE IS to blame here for not taking this guy into custody. We need to have Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary come clean about just what the people she has on hand are able to do. She needs to tell us why this guy was not taken when released by SJPD. OTOH, they operate in a hostile environment with their so-called “fellow officers” in local LE jurisdictions who do not want to enforce the law, but rather take orders from the RATs that are running CA.

Once again the BIG LIE!

Immigration detainers by their very design and wording cannot be (and never have been) served on victims or witnesses of crimes - but only those in police or prison custody for the commission of crimes. Honoring these detainers in fact protect crime victims and witnesses from criminals.

I think it’s about time Americans put these sanctuary cities and states on notice legally. We will sue the cities and states that do not deport these illegals. We have the constitution on our side. THAT’s how we dispose of both corrupt politicians and illegal criminals.

Lawyers need to start filing wrongful death suits against these sanctuary SOBs.

Release the murderer and drop him off at San Fran Nancy’s place. She likes open borders and illegals so much let her house him.

I am of the opinion that much of this sanctuary city crap will stop when they get successfully sued for releasing violent criminals against ICE immigration hold orders.

Here's a better idea: Stop paying taxes.

Why should American citizens pay taxes so that the state can give it away to illegal aliens? It's total insanity.

Sanctuary city/county officials need to start being killed by violent illegal aliens before this obstruction stops. ICE needs to release the worst offenders on the front steps of those who are trying to bring down the USA.

This has been going on for 40 years that I know of personally. ICE used to reimbursse for inmates’ keep so the counties/cities would keep them until ICE could there but when they stopped that practice, crimillegals were let loose to prey on the US public. It’s all about the money. Now days, there’s no incentive for the local jails to keep them. It takes time to get warrants and have staff on hand every hour on the hour to travel all over the county to every little jail instead of making a run once a week or so.

A with everything, follow the money.

I do see your point about ICE not having the money or resources, and thus leaving people to languish. But I still think therre should have been notification of ICE, IMO.

What I got from the article is that the fundamental issue is that the jail did not notify ICE that the inmate was being released, in this case a violent burglar, drug pusher, and kidnapper (false imprisonment?) So they knew the guy was a bad apple, but as you said, released him freely as an illegal back into the community.

I presume ICE is maintaining there should have been notification, fax, call, or letter from the County Jail to ICE that they planned to release the criminal, and the County Jail is saying they have no such obligation, or at least under their locality’s “sanctuary act” they refuse to.

The jail is saying ICE should have sent a warrant to keep him as their primary excuse, and that it was a violation of the illegal’s “Constitutional Rights” to keep him imprisoned without that warrant.

I have always been under the impression that if you are not a citizen, our constitutional rights do not apply.

I have to side with ICE on this. If they want to play their “sanctuary state” games with illegal alien shoplifters and illegal aliens breaking a traffic law, we’re going to argue about it. But this guy sounded like he shouldn’t have been just let go without telling ICE they were going to do so.

I was explaining the history of why locals no longer hold crimillegals until the feds can get to them. ICE can’t have a dozen agents waiting around each and every little podunk jail awaiting the locals to arrest an illegal. I side with ICE, too. Locals continually fail to notify ICE. Locals want compensation from the feds. They don’t care about their own citizens when crimillegals are released. There is no excuse for releasing anyone here illegally be it crossing the border or overstaying their visa.

In my podunk county, I don’t know if we release them regularly before ICE gets there or if ICE just happens to come when there’s a bus load are still in custody. The jail log is publicized and ICE comes every few days to haul off a dozen or two. That said, once in ICE custody, they are too often released again.

Just checked - 40+ were turned over to ICE yesterday. If that’s the number in podunkville, how many across the nation?

800 came across the border into El Paso last Saturday night. That’s just one entry point and within a span of a few hours on one night.

Yes, RATS, this is an emergency crisis.

It sure is an emergency, no doubt. I saw the stats of 60K+ CAUGHT for the last four months alone, and my rule of thumb is that on a 1,954 mile border, the MAX we would catch is 35%, but likely only 25% at best. So that is 180,000 a month making it through, which is over 2 million a year, for how many years?

Yep. This IS an emergency.
