The Treasury Department announced Monday..“The United States will take action against foreign financial institutions that sustain the illegitimate Maduro regime and contribute to the economic collapse and humanitarian crisis plaguing the people of Venezuela,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said.

Mnuchin’s team blacklisted Evrofinance Mosnarbank, a Moscow-based bank established by the late Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez in 2011 in coordination with two major state-owned Russian banks. Those institutions — VTB Bank and Gazprombank — have been sanctioned since 2014 in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. They have partnered with the Maduro regime to help Venezuela’s state-owned oil company, PdVSA, which is also laboring under U.S. sanctions as "an entity that has long been a vehicle for corruption, embezzlement, and money laundering by Maduro and his cronies," as Treasury put it Monday.

Back in the day sanctions were used to punish things like genocide or of similar magnitude.
Today it is arbitrary slapped on people and entities doing legal business with people you don’t like.
Russia, Libya is one thing. What would you do after China and Germany would ask themselves questions?
It is nothing but an abuse of usd for political gains and it won’t end well for national economy in a long run.

I have no problem with the sanctions on Russia's bank as they are supporting Maduro...having also Moved corporate headquarters of their oil company to Russia recently as well. So Russia's definitely in the game in Venezuela.....especially with all they've invested there under Maduro’s terms.

It's ridiculous how Putin always proclaims countries should not interfere in other countries affairs yet he continues to be a leader that does exactly that himself. We know all leading countries do this but to constantly warn against it when you're one of the biggest players is nuts!

I am not saying it is right. Just pointing to the fact that the bus driver is still a president and there is no law saying that the trade with Venezuela is illegal.
It is ok to set rules for entities under you jurisdiction including on foreign trade but foreign entities are up to their own rules.
