The people of Venezuela (at least some of them) voted for socialism/communism some 20 years ago. They got it. This is the inevitable result.

If "somebody else" goes in and saves their butts from their self-inflicted stupidity, the socialists/communists among them will do the same thing again.

If they weed out the socialists/communists among their population, then they would deserve some help getting the country going again. Otherwise it's a waste of resources.

Exactly right.

If Rubio really wanted to do the people of Venezuela a favor, he should go on any pirate radio stations broadcasting into that country, lecturing the people there in Spanish that they are starving because they were stupid enough to repeatedly vote in Chavez and Maduro. And that if they would like to have a steady supply of food and toilet paper in the future they should vote for capitalists.

As you point out, we are not only seeing the fruits of Socialism but we are seeing the fruits of “Democracy.”

We all remember Jimmy Carter down there as an observer in their elections claiming he was happy with the 60% majority that Hugo Chavez got and since it was “Democratic” everything would be just fine.

Democracy can be the tyranny of the 51% and not much different from the tyranny of a ruling Class or the Tyranny of a despot.

Chavez seized the government in ‘92 in a coup. Tyranny.
Chavez held elections and claimed victory in ‘99. Tyranny
Chavez wrote a new Constitution with the help of Cuba and pushed it through — Democracy.
The new Democracy voted and gave Chavez 60% — Democracy.
The government voted again in 2006 and Hollywood applauded Democracy.

A majority of people can be trained to vote for Socialism and take other’s property — California.
