I see your point about 2020 but my worry is what happens after President Trump is out of the White House.

At this point it doesn’t matter on legislation, with the having the House now locked down by the Democrats.
But yea, if the Republicans weren’t TOTAL IDIOTS for the first 2 years of Trump, they would have realized just who the Democrats are and the VERY SIMPLE FACT that once given power, the Dems will take all steps possible to consolidate that power and ELIMINATE Republicans from ever again having any power, even something this minor - as we are seeing now.
The bottom line is that the Democrats are TOTALLY DONE with debating Republicans and allowing Republican voices to be heard...that’s OVER, game over - and most of us will not see that change, at least in our lifetimes. And if we’re really lucky, people like Ted Cruz will begin to understand this...but so far, he seems to have the same, nostalgic, view of Democrats, as, say, Lamar Alexander and most other elected Republicans (by opposing Trump’s emergency declaration). The Democrats no longer give a crap, nor will they even bother to remember, what we do to try to be nice to them. If they want an emergency declaration on gun control, and have that power, they will do so, regardless of what Ted thinks today.
Message to Republicans: This is a NEW Democrat Party, and they are out for blood (literally, once they can get away with it) - either you (elected) guys accept that FACT, or your blood will likely be drawn first, not by me or others here, but by those Democrats across the aisle who you still think you can play nice with.
They don't want a wall to slow down the illegal traffic across the border any more than the Rats do, they're just think they can put some "principled" face on their objections and not have average folks figure out how damn corrupt they really are.
Democrats always push everything as far as possible then fight tooth and nail to hold their gains whenever the tide turns against them. Republicans give ground because someone might think they're nasty if they don't.
The country is dying of gangrene and the only question is will the cure be a harsh antibiotic selectively applied that kills individual gangrene cells or the more dramatic geographical equivalent of a limb being amputated.
I think there is too much made of the “hate” that the Leftists have for Trump, sort of a disembodied sentiment that by chance coalesced around Trump.
No, their hatred is not aimed at Trump per se, and not because they don’t like him, because they manifestly liked him before he ran, but they hate that he is in the way of them maintaining their power and wealth. He is only a target that gives them a focus to smear. It is like Orwell’s daily two minute hate sessions If they defeat Trump, they get to maintain their power. Any like-minded leader would get the same treatment.

This is why you don’t worry about setting precedent with the Democrats, they are out of control and will do anything if they get back the Senate and WH. Every Republican who votes against Trump is a traitor-period.

The Democrats have always been evil but the women have overtook the party and there hate and spitfulness is on full display use men can have differences in opinion and can fight like hell one day and can be best friends the next day but most women I’ve met thru my life if you get on there bad side the claws come out and they want to destroy you compassion and forgiveness is something these newly enpowered woman know nothing about there on a power trip and there riding it right to the gates of hell these women that us men have protected from harm will not treat us so kind it’s already happening and will get worse just wait till the Dems get rid of the remaining white guys in Congress and put all there race quotas in place and we get 20 tannys to go with these woman plus the black caucus my friends we have seen nothing yet to what’s coming
