I doubt that he informed Mr. Trump and the Trump Organization that he was up to his eyeballs in those crimes while he was working for them, lest he be fired immediately. Thus, he retained his status while concealing a material fact regarding their relationship, meaning he lost his right to any fees he’d otherwise be entitled to.
